Job purpose

  • The PRN Advanced Provider Position with Kidder County Ambulance (KCA) is responsible to take ambulance call time, take scheduled transfers, respond to all medical emergency calls in the ambulance district, keeps patient and family members informed, while following all standard protocols. The PRN Advanced Provider demonstrates safe driving habits in emergency and non-emergency situations and helps maintain equipment and vehicles.  This position will assist the Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator of a multi-faceted county EMS agency for Kidder County, and is based upon available funding and the continuance of said funding.
  • 12 – 24 hour day shifts/week 6am-6pm

Duties and responsibilities

  • Responds to all emergency ambulance calls for the Kidder County Ambulance District and intercept requests from neighboring EMS agencies.
  • Takes scheduled transfers upon request.
  • Assess patient injuries and illnesses to determine the necessary course of action.
  • Provides emergency medical care, administer medications, interventions and procedures in compliance with all KCA Protocols and Policies.
  • Transports patients to the appropriate level of hospital following Trauma, STEMI and Stroke guidelines.
  • Performs and documents assessments according to guidelines, and/or as patient condition requires, i.e., vital signs, intake and output, IV's, blood sugars, room/caregiver assignment, etc. and ensures patient is properly identified.
  • Monitor patient conditions and accurately documents all patient assessment and treatments in the ESO.
  • Take scheduled call for KCA on a weekday 12-hour shift from 6am – 6pm.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision by Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator.
  • Daily inventory and re-stocking of all ambulance supplies, equipment, and supply room – follow checklist, sign and date and return to Coordinator.
  • Cleaning, sanitizing, organizing, and daily maintenance of all ambulances.
  • Wash and wax ambulances as needed.
  • Assist in cleaning the facility to include, but not limited to, the meeting room, kitchen, bathrooms, supply room, training room, hallways, living area, and ambulance garage.
  • Attains certifications necessary to maintain this position to include, but not limited to ACLS, PALS, EVO, BLS, PHTLS or ITLS.
  • Assist with community education training in CPR, First AID, Farm Safety and Health/Safety Education for Kidder County School District and the Public.
  • Assist with and help coordinate and participate in public relations activities and special events.
  • Act as a liaison to other public safety agencies and the communities of Kidder County.
  • Develop and maintain mutual aid relationships and guidelines with surrounding EMS agencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Coordinator, Assistant Coordinator and Board of Directors.

Qualifications

  • Hold a current Paramedic certification with the National Registry of EMT’s and/or be a current licensed Registered Nurse with certifications in ACLS, PALS, EVO, and BLS.  Preference with certifications in ITLS or PHTLS.
  • Must hold a current license with the ND Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Emergency Medical Systems.
  • Must hold a current North Dakota driver’s license, have a good driving record, and be able to proficiently drive the ambulance when needed.
  • Ability to work independently and make critical decisions under pressure.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Must be able to effectively perform the job, or appropriate level of licensure to be the primary crew member
  • Must be task orientated and a self-starter.
  • Have the capability to lift >50 – 100 pounds.
  • Knowledge and use of the ESO PCR Reporting System.
  • Effective communication skills while on the phone and in person with staff, volunteers and the public.
  • Prefer a minimum of two years of active EMS experience as a primary/#1 crew member providing patient care.
  • Must have a clean criminal history, free of felony convictions.

Language Requirements

  • This position requires proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English to ensure effective communication in the workplace and with patients, families, and team members.

Attendance

  • KCA employees will be prompt and work their full assignments, taking breaks as required.
  • Must be present at the KCA hall to complete job tasks and call time.
